@CasparHobbs I think it could be there were a couple of cross country runs in that era. I will have to post the maps of those which cross over water.

Yesterday was the Crick Run which was first run in 1838. The first recorded time we have is from 1845 when two boys ran the race in 1 hour and 32 minutes and 0 seconds.
