In 1896, it was customary for one of the Lower Bench to warn of the Head Master’s approach to the classroom. A phrase from a popular song would be sung; (‘Our lodger is a jolly fellow.’). One day, a boy forgot the rhyme and sang, ‘Our Bodger is a nice young man’. The name stuck!
